Razgatlioglu leads Bautista, Lowes in WorldSBK Warm Up at Portimao

Race 1 winner Toprak Razgatlioglu topped Sunday morning’s Warm Up session as he looks to continue closing the gap in the title rac

The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship kicked off Sunday action at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve for the Pirelli Portuguese Round as reigning Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) topped the timesheets. The Turkish star was almost four tenths clear of his rivals at the end of the 15-minute session which started Sunday’s action ahead of racing getting underway on Sunday in Portugal.

Most riders set their best time in the early stages of the session, with Razgatlioglu setting a 1’40.116s after completing eight laps in the session. He finished 0.394s ahead of Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in second place as the top two riders from Race 1 took the top two positions in Warm Up. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), who battled in the podium positions in yesterday’s race, was third and only 0.010s slower than Bautista.

It was a strong session for Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) as he took fourth place, less than a tenth behind Lowes and just 0.006s clear of fellow Italian rider Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati). American star Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) rounded out the top six with a 1’40.883s.

Six-time Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was outside the top six as he finished seventh quickest, eight tenths down on Razgatlioglu’s fastest time, with Rea finishing two tenths clear of Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) in eighth place. Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) led Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) with the BMW duo rounding out the top ten. Redding completed only six laps in the session, returning to the pits after an initial out lap and also pulling off the track at the end of the session.
