The second day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was interrupted by rain around three hours into the day with Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) topping the times for MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship machines. Razgatlioglu’s time was almost four tenths quicker than his nearest rival with only two riders lapping in the 1’40s bracket.

Razgatlioglu was able to complete 33 laps before the rain fell, posting a best time of 1’40.571s on his Yamaha YZF-R1. The Japanese manufacturer continue to test their new electronics package, with the team also trialling a new exhaust system throughout the day. Razgatlioglu’s teammate, Andrea Locatelli, was 11^th as he looked to bounce back from his day one crash. The team also had fitted three additional accelerometers to their bike in order to gather as much data as possible.

Spanish rider Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) continued to show his strong pace with second place in the morning, having topped some of the early stages of the morning. With a modified swingarm on his Ducati Panigale V4 R and new inside items on the front forks to gain the best performance out of his machine, Bautista’s time was a 1’40.952s while teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi was sixth on his V4 R.

Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) made it three manufacturers in the top three as he finished in third place with a best time of 1’41.033s and 37 laps completed. Lecuona is aiming to keep working on the electronic settings of his bike ahead of his rookie campaign. Teammate Xavi Vierge was able to make it two Hondas in the top ten as he finished in eighth place, seven tenths off his teammate.

Six-time Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was fourth fastest on his ZX-10RR, 0.6s back from Razgatlioglu after posting a best time of 1’41.168s. Rea was hoping to work on some new components including small changes to the clutch on the second day of testing. Teammate Alex Lowes was in 12^th place, who also had some new items to try in the search for mechanical grip.

The top five was rounded out by American rider Garrett Gerloff (GRT GYRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) as he continued to show strong off-season form. Gerloff was the last rider within a second of Yamaha stablemate Razgatlioglu’s time as he posted a 1’41.320s for the fifth fastest time, while teammate Kohta Nozane was in 13^th place.

All five manufacturers were represented in the top seven positions with Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) taking seventh place despite technical issues in the morning limiting his running. The British rider was shown as stopping in sector one early on in the day but was able to set 23 laps with a best time of 1’41.636s.

Two Independent riders rounded out the top ten positions on the morning of day two, with Philipp Oettl (Team GoEleven) leading Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) by just 0.009s. Mahias is continuing to test new suspension following a switch of suppliers over the winter, while Oettl’s team changed exhaust suppliers with the team looking to continue working on that.

In WorldSSP, Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing WorldSSP Team) continues to lead the way ahead of his rookie campaign on the Ducati Panigale V2. He posted a best lap time of 1’45.110s, around 0.3s quicker than the WorldSSP race lap record and almost two seconds clear of Raffaele De Rosa (Ducati Orelac Racing VerdNatura) in second place. Oli Bayliss (Barni Spark Racing Team) rounded out the three runners from WorldSSP in this test.
