Harry Truelove set for WorldSSP wildcard debut with Team Appleyard Macadam Racing
Second in the British Supersport class, Truelove will get a huge opportunity to showcase his talent on the world stage
The 2022 Prosecco DOC UK Round for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship promises to be an action-packed round as excitement once again beckons and WorldSBK comes home to its birthplace. However, in the FIM Supersport World Championship, there’ll be plenty of reasons for British fans to cheer as a wildcard will be taking place. Harry Truelove, currently second in the British Supersport class, will represent the ColinAppleyard/Macadam-Yamaha outfit as they prepare to return to the Championship for the first time since 2019.
Truelove has enjoyed his best start to a season in 2022 in the UK, with five podiums placing him second overall in the Championship standings. With a best of third place achieved five times, Truelove will make his debut on the world stage. However, the team are no strangers to the World Championship, as they fielded Jack Kennedy and Brad Jones in 2019 at Donington Park, where they came away with a seventh and ninth place respectively, whilst in 2016 they competed with Andrew Irwin, who finished in 18th. In 2022, Truelove will be on a WorldSSP-spec bike for the event, with preparation led by chief Alex Smith.
Talking about his debut in World Supersport, Harry Truelove said: “I’m very excited to get the opportunity to make my World Championship debut, especially at the iconic Donington Park. Over the years, many Brits have attended this event and performed well, putting their names out there with some of best riders in the world. Although we have a number of changes to get used to bike and tyre wise, I’m going to approach the weekend like any other, working through the program with my team as we normally do. Team Appleyard Macadam already have previous experience of this event having competed in it back in 2016 with Andrew Irwin, as well in 2019 with both Jack Kennedy and Brad Jones who both secured point scoring finishes.”
Team Principal, Robin Appleyard, himself a former Grand Prix top ten finisher in the 125cc World Championship, commented on the team’s return to World Championship action: “It’s always nice to showcase ourselves on the world stage and even more so that we’re able to give Harry his debut. I’m very proud of the team for the effort that has gone in to making this event possible, especially Alex Smith for the long hours building an entirely new motorcycle for this event, which has not been easy alongside all our existing commitments. As always, we’d like to thank our partners and sponsors for their continued support.”
British fans will also have two wildcards to cheer on in the main WorldSBK class, as reigning British Champion Tarran Mackenzie (McAMS Yamaha) makes his long-awaited debut with his McAMS Yamaha team and on a World Superbike-spec motorcycle. There will also be multiple BSB race winner and Isle of Man TT lap record holder Peter Hickman (FHO Racing), aboard his FHO Racing BMW M1000RR, which will feature WorldSBK-spec electronics.
