The WorldSSP rookie is hoping to be back on track for the season opener after undergoing surgery on a back injury

With the FIM Supersport World Championship kicking off at MotorLand Aragon in just a couple of weeks, riders will be looking ahead for the first race of the season. Rookie Ben Currie’s (Motozoo Racing by Puccetti) preparations for this season have taken a setback after he revealed that he fractured the L1 vertebrae and had a separation in his spine following the injury which he sustained in a motocross crash in February.

Currie was taken to hospital following the crash with concerns about the safety of his spinal cord, with the German-Australian rider operated on in Barcelona. He had full feeling in his lower limbs, and he underwent surgery on his spine where everything went to plan. Although he was told he could start moving again, Currie became very weak and faint as he tried to move the following day before undergoing a blood transfusion as a result of low oxygen levels in his blood.

After also undergoing the blood transfusion, Currie was able to be back on his feet and start building up his strength; with the WorldSSP rookie now looking to build up his fitness ahead of the Pirelli Aragon Round from the 8th-10th April. Currie is joining the Motozoo Racing by Puccetti squad in 2022 alongside 2020 WorldSSP300 Champion Jeffrey Buis for his maiden WorldSSP campaign. He brings plenty of Supersport-level experience to the team from competing in the United Kingdom on Supersport machinery including finishing runner-up on two occasions.
