The Spanish rider is aiming to add to his home victory from Saturday and started the day with the fastest time in Sunday’s Warm Up session

Sunday’s action at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya kicked off with the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship Warm Up session for the Catalunya Round. On a mostly dry track but with some damp patches following overnight rain, it was Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) who topped the timesheets in the 15-minute session to start Sunday’s action with the fastest lap as he looks to add to his Race 1 victory in Sunday’s two races.

Bautista’s best time was a 1’41.747s which he set with his last flying lap in the 15-minute session to start his Sunday on top, finishing only 0.045s ahead of Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) in second. Lowes had been strong throughout the Warm Up session and spent the majority of the session on top of the times despite only completing three timed laps, but dropped behind Bautista right at the end of the session. Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) took third place as he looks to back up his Race 1 podium with more rostrum visits on Sunday.

Reigning Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) took fourth place on his Yamaha, with the Turkish star aiming to bounce back from yesterday’s fifth place finish. Iker Lecuona (Team HRC), who will start the Tissot Superpole Race from pole, was fifth after setting a 1’42.345s; only 0.002s slower than Razgatlioglu. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was sixth fastest in Warm Up with the Italian taking a trip through the gravel at Turn 1 at the end of the session. After having a huge moment under braking for Turn 1, Rinaldi ran wide and through the gravel but was able to stay on his bike.

Rookie Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven) took seventh place ahead of the second factory Yamaha of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) in eighth place with the pair separated by just 0.020s at the end of the session. Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) took ninth place in Warm Up with compatriot Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) rounding out the top ten, posting a 1’42.554s and lapping only 0.014s slower than Rea.
