Bautista leads Rea in Sunday WorldSBK Warm Up at Assen

The Spanish rider was three tenths clear of Jonathan Rea at the end of the 15-minute Warm Up session

Sunday action kicked off at the TT Circuit Assen for the Motul Dutch Round with Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) leading the timesheets for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship field. The 15-minute Warm Up session kick started what promises to be a super Sunday of action in the Netherlands with the podium trio from Race 1 claiming the top three places in Warm Up.

Bautista posted a best time of 1’34.120s to claim top spot in the Warm Up session, finishing 0.283s clear of Race 1 winner Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) who was second. Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) was third, 0.583s back from Bautista, after putting in a late lap to move up the order.

After not finishing Race 1, Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) started his Sunday with fourth place as he looks to bounce back from yesterday’s disappointment. American star Garrett Gerloff (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) claimed sixth spot, after posting a best time of 1’34.777s, just a tenth ahead of Yamaha stablemate Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) in sixth.

German rookie Philipp Oettl (Team Goeleven) continued his strong Dutch Round with seventh place, matching his result from Race 1, ahead of fellow rookie Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) in eighth. Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), another rider hoping to bounce back from a difficult Saturday, was ninth with Spanish rookie Xavi Vierge (Team HRC) rounding out the top ten.

Sammarinese rookie Luca Bernardi (BARNI Spark Racing Team) showed good pace in the 15-minute session with 11th, while Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) was 15th and suffered a technical issue at the end of the season. Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW) was the highest-placed BMW rider in 13th place after setting a best time of 1’35.873s.
