After a record-breaking FIM Supersport World Championship campaign in his rookie campaign, Dominique Aegerter will look to retain his title in 2022 after committing to another season with the Ten Kate Racing Yamaha outfit. Aegerter was able to claim the title in his rookie season at the Motul Argentinean Round and will now look to become the first back-to-back WorldSSP Champion since Kenan Sofuoglu claimed his fourth and fifth titles in 2015 and 2016.

The 31-year-old rider moved into WorldSSP for the 2021 campaign after a decade of competing in Moto2™ and took the category by storm, racking up 10 wins in the 21 races run so far in 2021 and 14 podiums. Despite missing the Catalunya Round due to a clash with the MotoE™ World Cup, where he finished in 2021, Aegerter was able to wrap up the title with a round to spare with the Swiss rider currently 68 points clear of Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team) with 50 available across the final two races of the season in Indonesia.

Aegerter’s early-season results included a five-race winning streak from Race 2 at Estoril until Race 2 at Assen, Ten Kate Racing’s home round; the second-longest winning streak in WorldSSP and only bettered by Andrea Locatelli’s nine-in-a-row in his title-winning campaign from 2020. His 14 podiums in 2021 is also a record for podiums in a single campaign as he became the second rider from Switzerland to claim the WorldSSP title and doing so in record-breaking fashion.

Following his incredible debut season, Ten Kate Racing Yamaha and Aegerter will return together in 2022 as they look to make it back-to-back titles, with the team once again using the Yamaha YZF R6 machine. Aegerter explained his delight at continuing for the team next season, saying: “I am very happy to continue with Ten Kate Racing Yamaha in 2022. We had a great first season with many successes and the World Championship. I am looking forward to working with the same group of people next season. I feel very much at home at Ten Kate Racing, and we are a strong team. Next year, we will have more experience and more data, so the goal will be to defend the world title with the Yamaha R6. Our common goal is to continue and grow together in 2023. I want to thank the team and all partners and sponsors who make our dream possible. But first we go to Indonesia, an important race in which we will try to score as many points as possible for the Teams’ Championship!"

Aegerter’s Riders’ Championship success gave the Ten Kate Racing team their tenth title in WorldSSP, and 11^th in the entire WorldSBK paddock; their first since the 2014 season with Michael van der Mark. The team can also still win the 2021 Teams’ Championship and currently lie top of the standings with 412 points, eight points clear of nearest rivals Kawasaki Puccetti Racing and 35 ahead of Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team.

Discussing the 2022 campaign, Team Manager Kervin Bos said: “We are very proud to announce that Dominique Aegerter will also join Ten Kate Racing Yamaha next season. We are relatively late with this announcement, but we came to an agreement in an early stage of the season. Dominique fits excellently within the team and his Swiss mentality fits perfectly with our way of working. The goal is to also grow together in 2023, more about that at a later moment. We have one more race to go this year in Indonesia. We can race without pressure, and I expect that we will then see a magnificent Dominique Aegerter.”
