The American star put in a late lap to top the timesheets by just 0.016s as Warm-Up shakes up the order in Argentina

Sunday’s action for the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship got underway at the Circuito San Juan Villicum ahead of two races on Sunday with American star Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) topping the timesheets after a late lap in the 15-minute session during the Motul Argentinean Round, with just 0.016s separating Gerloff and his nearest rival.

Gerloff showed strong end-of-race pace in yesterday’s Race 1 and continued that into Sunday morning with a 1’37.719s right at the end of the session ahead of polesitter Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in second place, with Redding lapping just 0.016s slower than Gerloff as he looks to bounce back from his Race 1 crash. Reigning Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was third.

Championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) claimed fourth place in the 15-minute session, with the Race 1 winner looking to keep extending his Championship lead across the rest of the round. The top four in Warm-Up were separated by just two tenths of a second, setting up an incredible day of action. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) was fifth and Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) rounded out the top six.

Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) continued his strong Argentinean weekend with seventh place ahead of Italian rookie duo Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) and Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) in eighth and ninth respectively, while Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) made it a hat-trick of Italians inside the top ten with tenth place.

Isaac Viñales’ (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) session came to an end after just five minutes after he crashed out at Turn 14. Three Argentinean riders are on the grid on home soil with Leandro Mercado (MIE Racing Honda Team) 17th and OUTDO TPR Team Pedercini Racing duo Luciano Ribodino and Marco Solorza rounding out the field in 20th and 21st.
