The 2021 FIM Supersport 300 World Championship was its usual action-packed self in the Netherlands as the class put on a stunning display in their third round of the year at Assen. The Prosecco DOC Dutch Round saw both Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) and Tom Booth-Amos (Fusport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki), the top two in the Championship, take wins. After a Race 1 crash at the final chicane on the final lap, Booth-Amos bounced back on Sunday to win in Race 2, whilst Huertas was dropped two positions for track limits infringements, finishing fifth. 

A wild weekend of action saw Booth-Amos right in contention throughout the opening race on Saturday afternoon, but a second consecutive last lap crash (following Misano Race 2), meant he missed out on the podium whilst title rival Huertas took victory. In Race 2 though, he would be given a nine-place grid penalty for riding slowly in WorldSSP300 Superpole, but a determined performance saw the British rider flourish as he took his second win of the 2021 season, now 18 points behind Huertas in the title race.

Speaking after the race on Sunday, Booth-Amos hailed the Sunday performance and learnt from his mistake on Saturday: “Another crazy race just like every race in World Supersport 300! It’s always difficult to find the right moment to overtake and lead to the finish line. I think I did a good job on Sunday, it’s a shame I crashed yesterday which was my own mistake; I learnt from that on Sunday and came back today to get some points back in the Championship.”

Booth-Amos now heads to Most, a track he’s never visited, where he hopes that more consistency will see him return to the top of the Championship tree: “I feel the strongest I’ve felt on the bike, we need to keep pushing and going for the victories; not making silly mistakes and hopefully I’ll get the lead back in the Championship. I’ve not been to Most yet, but I think that’s the same as most riders in WorldSSP300. It’ll be nice to go in there all equal and be good to race at a new track in the Championship.”

Team manager Rob Vennegoor stated his delight at Booth-Amos’ Race 2 win, particularly as it was the team’s home round: “I’m so happy for Tom and our team after his crashes at Misano and Assen. He did a superb job after the grid penalty and stayed focused despite all the bad luck he had before Race 2. It’s wonderful to be part of this team!”
