Di Sora on top after WorldSSP300 FP1 at Assen after last-gasp lap

Friday, 23 July 2021 08:30 GMT

The Frenchman topped the session by just over a tenth after a late lap in the 30-minute session

The action kicked off at the TT Circuit Assen for the Prosecco DOC Dutch Round and it was Frenchman Samuel Di Sora (Leader Team Flembbo) who topped the opening Free Practice 1 session of the weekend ahead of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship as he finished a tenth clear of his nearest rival.

Reigning Champion Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki) had topped the timesheets for the majority of the 30-minute session, but a late lap from Di Sora, setting a 1’49.279s, was enough to top the timesheets with Unai Orradre (Yamaha MS Racing) in second and home hero Buis in third, with the trio separated by just over a tenth.

Buis’ MTM Kawasaki teammate, Yuta Okaya, finished in fourth place, half-a-tenth off his teammate, with Tom Booth-Amos (Fusport – RT Motorsports by SKM – Kawasaki) in fifth place. Booth-Amos and Okaya were separated by just 0.007s, showing how competitive the WorldSSP300 field is. Dutch rider Victor Steeman (Freudenberg KTM WorldSSP Team) was in sixth, ensuring all three manufacturers were represented in the top six.

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) claimed seventh place, almost four tenths away from Di Sora, with Hugo de Cancellis (Prodina Team WorldSSP300), Inigo Iglesias (SMW Racing) and Oliver König (Movisio by MIE) rounding out the top ten. One second separated the top 17 in Free Practice 1, setting the weekend’s Tissot Superpole session and two races up perfectly.
