The Welshman was declared unfit following a heavy fall during Sunday’s first race of the day

The opening race on Sunday for the 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship’s Hyundai N Catalunya Round at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was action-packed from the start. However, Chaz Davies (Team GoEleven) could take no further part in the race weekend following a crash for the Ducati rider with Lucas Mahias on Lap 3 of the Tissot Superpole Race.

The crash, which started at Turn 11 but then finished in Turn 12 left Davies on the ground, conscious but in discomfort. He was stretchered away and taken to the medical centre, where he was diagnosed with a lumbar contusion, whilst remaining stable and conscious. The 32-time World Superbike race winner has been transported to Catalunya Hospital for further assessments. Following the assessments, Davies was diagnosed with two broken ribs.

A statement from the team said: “Further medical scans showed two broken ribs in the back of the body. Chaz will stay at the Barcelona Hospital for the night. We will keep you updated as soon as possible.”

Everyone at WorldSBK wishes Chaz Davies a speedy recovery.
