Aegerter’s double at Assen left team boss Bos "speechless" after historic home round

The Swiss rookie extended his unbeaten run in WorldSSP to five races after taking commanding victories in the Netherlands

Swiss rider Dominique Aegerter (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) came into the Prosecco DOC Dutch Round on the back of three consecutive race victories in the FIM Supersport World Championship as he looked to become the second rookie in succession to claim the title. At the TT Circuit Assen, Ten Kate Racing’s home round, Aegerter was competing on a special yellow and black livery and was able to mark this with a double victory.

Aegerter withstood the challenge from Steven Odendaal (Evan Bros. Yamaha WorldSSP Team) and Philipp Oettl (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) in Race 1 before being able to extend his lead throughout the second half of the 18-lap race to win by almost three seconds. Such was Aegerter’s pace, he posted a new lap record on the penultimate lap of the race, a 1’37.688s, and went under the old lap record four times during the race. 16 of Aegerter’s 18 lap times in Race 1 were recorded in the 1’38s or 1’37s bracket, only slower on the opening two laps.

Race 2 was a similar story for the Swiss rider, initially coming under pressure from Odendaal and Oettl but able to extend his lead in the second half of the race. In Race 2, Aegerter was unable to set a new lap record although the Swiss rider was able to again ride consistently in the 1’38s bracket throughout the 18-lap race, only slower on the opening two laps and the final lap. It was an incredible performance from Aegerter that left Team Manager Kervin Bos “speechless”.

Reacting after Sunday’s race, Bos said: “What a weekend! With Dominique we were constantly the fastest man on track. This resulted in a pole position, two victories and twice the fastest race lap. I am speechless. #ProjectYellow has been more than a success. Great that we could show this in front of our home crowd. All credits to Dominique and the team.”

Looking back on the weekend, Aegerter added: “It was a perfect event here at the TT Circuit Assen, the home Round of my Ten Kate Racing team. We were, in every practice, in front. We claimed pole position, we took the win on Saturday, we took fastest lap. Today, the win with fastest lap. I don’t think we can do it much better! It’s perfect to show our potential with the special livery, the yellow bike, that they started with nearly 20 years ago. We also made some history this weekend. Nice to have all the fans back and also the sponsors. It’s nice to show them our speed and what we have.”
