In his first race weekend since the Yamaha Finance Australian Round, Andrea Locatelli (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team) claimed a dominant double victory when he appeared as a wildcard in the season-opening CIV weekend. Locatelli claimed pole position 1.4s ahead of his nearest competitor before taking two victories.

The first victory came by a margin of almost 20 seconds for Locatelli as he started from pole position; leaving the rest of the field behind as he completed his first race on his WorldSSP-spec Yamaha YZF-Y6 since Phillip Island. As the FIM Supersport World Championship standings leader was competing on a WorldSSP-spec bike, he was unable to score CIV championship points nor celebrate his two victories on the podium.

Speaking after his first race victory, Locatelli said: “I am satisfied with the work done today, as we are continuing to collect a lot of useful data in view of the recovery of our championship. Having the chance to do a race is very important in this sense, and beyond the result we were able to understand some very interesting things. The bike has worked well throughout the race and that makes me very satisfied, I can only be more and more confident for the next races, and I really thank the team for the great work they have done”.

The second race the following day was a similar story for Locatelli; the Italian WorldSSP rookie winning the 14-lap race by a margin of almost 20 seconds for his second dominant victory at Mugello in as many days. The two dominant victories put Locatelli in great form for when WorldSSP resumes with a new two-race format in just a few weeks!

After his second victory, Locatelli said: “Compared to yesterday we have taken a further step forward, thanks to the great work done by the team until late in the evening. The balance of the weekend is certainly very positive: it was a really useful weekend for us, especially for the possibility to compete again with a real race, regardless of the result. I want to thank the FMI for inviting us to take part in this first round of CIV, and of course I would like to thank the team again for their support”.
