Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK’s Team Manager, Guim Roda, reviews a Championship-winning season and discusses Champion Jonathan Rea

History was made by Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK in 2020 as it, along with Jonathan Rea, claimed its sixth consecutive MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship riders’ title with Kawasaki also taking the Manufacturers’ Championship by just a single point. Guim Roda, KRT’s Team Manager, sat down with WorldSBK.com to look back on the season and give a glimpse of what might happen in 2021… You can watch the full interview with Roda at the top of this article!

KRT and Rea have now won six consecutive Riders’ Championships in a row since the Northern Irishman joined Kawasaki Racing Team. Discussing Rea, Roda said: “He is in his best moment. He has experience. He has the force. He has the motivation and he understands how to manage each situation always in the best possible way. His strongest point is his capacity to adapt to situations and take always the best.”

The 2020 season was disrupted after the Australian Round due to the ongoing health situation around the world. Roda reacted to this, acknowledging the challenges a condensed calendar poses: “At the restart in August, we just had two and a half months of racing and compressed everything. It’s difficult to understand the character of the bike at different tracks in different conditions with the pressure of the practice on Friday and immediately a race weekend on Saturday.

Roda also reaffirmed the commitment Kawasaki has to the Championship, saying: “The main point is the commitment from Kawasaki to have interest to stay in the Championship and this means commitment to continue in this market of superbikes, in the maximum capacity with 1000cc. The commitment from Kawasaki to the Championship is clear. We expect to stay here, not only to make races, but especially try to win.”
