The title battle in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship is heading down to the wire with teammates Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki MOTOPORT) and Scott Deroue looking to claim the first World Championship in WorldSSP300 for a Dutch rider with everything to be decided at the season finale at Circuito Estoril.

Buis finished ahead of Deroue across both races at the Pirelli French Round, held at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, claiming a win and a second place as he extended his Championship lead to 28 points. It means Buis can wrap up the title in Race 1 at the Pirelli Estoril Round by finishing ahead of Deroue or losing three or fewer points to his teammate.

Buis, speaking after his double podium at Magny-Cours, said: “I’m very happy with that, especially for the Championship. This race was a difficult race because of the conditions. At the beginning it was dry then it started to rain, so they had to make a plan, but that plan worked, and I finished second.”

Discussing how he will approach the Estoril Round, Buis said: “The most important thing is to stay on the bike and pick up as many points as possible! I will do my best again in Estoril and try to be the Champion.”

Deroue claimed one podium across the two races at Magny-Cours as he finished second in Race 1, directly behind Buis and fourth in Race 2; two places behind his teammate as he lost more ground in the Championship race after making a mistake on the penultimate lap of the race, meaning he lost out on a podium spot.

Deroue said: “From the first practice session, the feeling was good on a wet track. It was not easy to come to the front of the first race from P8 on the grid. I had a good pace and was able to drive to Jeffrey. Second place was a good result. I felt strong in the second race, but it was a shame about the mistake in the penultimate lap. As a result, the podium places were lost, and I had to make sure that I finished fourth.”
