Monday, 3 August 2020 08:47 GMT

The 2020 WorldSBK season started with Yamaha at the top, then Kawasaki took over but now, Ducati have the advantage after just six races

A stunning return to the racing for the 2020 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship saw Ducati dominate Sunday afternoon at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto. Already one of the stand-out manufacturers at the historic Spanish venue, the ‘Bologna Bullets’ bolted to a first 1-2 in eight years in Race 2 on Sunday, with Scott Redding (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) storming to a 360th WorldSBK win. Not only did they have a 1-2, but the Italian manufacturer also achieved the best Independent rider honours, courtesy of Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Team GOELEVEN) in a splendid fourth, who beat both Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and his teammate Jonathan Rea in the final laps.

Speaking after the round, ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati’s team manager Serafino Foti – himself a former rider in WorldSBK with Ducati – stated his joy at such a big achievement: “We are proud to have reached the 360th victory that confirmed how Ducati has written the history of World Superbike. Yesterday was a great day for us. Despite this very difficult period for everyone, we were able to maintain our concentration so that we were ready for the restart of the season. We reached this milestone thanks to the extraordinary 1-2 that we share with all the guys of the ARUBA.IT Racing - Ducati team and all the guys of Ducati Corse who work at home.”

Former 500cc World Champion Marco Lucchinelli took Ducati’s first win, back in 1988 at Donington Park and since then, there’s been 31 different winners across factory, Independent and wildcard teams. Of the 31 winners for Ducati, Redding became the eighth rider from Great Britain to sign his name in the brand’s history books.

Continuing on, Foti continued to thank the team and the riders for their results at the Pirelli Spanish Round: “Obviously, I'd like to give a big round of applause to our riders Scott Redding and Chaz Davies, who have worked hard over the past few months to keep their concentration and fitness high, which has allowed them to achieve this result.”
