Christian Stange joins Freudenberg KTM team for 2020 WorldSSP300 season

Tuesday, 24 December 2019 00:52 GMT

Shortly before Christmas, the German KTM team announced Christian Stange's commitment to the WorldSSP300 Championship in the forthcoming season

After the German KTM team recently parted ways with Victor Steeman and had to look for a replacement in a very short space of time, Christian Stange will move into the team and the Championship for 2020. The 21-year-old from Heidenau rode to 28th place in the overall ranking in the GEMAR - Ciociaria Corse team in the World Supersport category, with a best finish of 13th in Argentina.

Stange has competed in all of the FIM Supersport World Championship races this year and also has the perfect physical conditions for the smallest category in the WorldSBK paddock. Thus, this is the ideal replacement for team principal Carsten Freudenberg: “The past few weeks have not been easy. In the end there were many interesting options. I was also talking to other fast riders. I am all the more pleased that we now have another top rider on board. Christian has always flashed his talent, although he had to work hard to make it into the World Championship. The size and physical requirements make him ideal for our KTM. I don’t think Christian always had it easy in his career as he often had to bite through, even if the bike wasn't perfect.

“With his fighting spirit, he is exactly right in the Supersport 300 World Championship. Victory or the podium in the last lap is often decided with 10 riders at times. I trust Christian to be top five! Many thanks to KTM, all team partners and sponsors who are really loyal to us and support this project with Christian 100%.”

Stange is happy about this Christmas surprise: “I am super happy that I can compete for Freudenberg KTM and his team. I don't think I've ever been on a team before, which in addition to professionalism, also works very closely with the motorcycle manufacturer. The victory of Luca and the podium of Jan-Olé have already shown that the package can be fast. Together, we want to establish ourselves so that we can achieve top five positions. I will be training a lot over the winter break to achieve the perfect weight and fitness for the class and I'm really looking forward to the first laps with the KTM. Many thanks to Carsten, his team and all supporters for this opportunity. I will give everything!"

Christian Stange will contest the first tests with the KTM RC 390 R at the beginning of March.
