The year 2000 was a vintage season of WorldSBK action, with a variety of winners, unexpected front-runners and true underdog stories prevailing at every turn of the championship. Monza was no different, with Pierfrancesco Chili entering the round off the back of three consecutive podiums, allowing him to be right in the mix for the championship. In Race 1, Chili went head-to-head with Colin Edwards, with two of the most popular riders in the championship duking it out for the win at one of the most historic races on the calendar. Onto the last lap, Chili timed it perfectly – although Edwards wasn’t ready to give in!
