Laverty to miss Misano as recovery continues

Tuesday, 18 June 2019 10:09 GMT

The unlucky Irishman will not take his place on the WorldSBK grid, with injuries hindering his return to action

After hoping to make the Pata Riviera di Rimini Round, Eugene Laverty (Team Goeleven) will miss the event and continue his recovery from the side-lines.  The Irishman suffered a big crash at Imola during the Pirelli Italian Round, breaking both of his wrists in multiple places. The injuries have forced him to miss the remainder of Imola, whilst missing all of Jerez and now Misano.

Missing Misano will come as a blow to Laverty, who took a joint-best result at the venue last season since his return to WorldSBK in 2017. ‘Norge’ is currently 14th in the championship and on 32 points. He will be eyeing up a return at Donington Park, a circuit he knows well. Laverty will however still be at Misano, taking part in various paddock activities.

“I’m devastated to miss Misano, but it is the only real option. I must wait until I am fit to ride otherwise I risk putting both myself and the other riders in danger. I will travel to Misano to support my Team Goeleven Ducati squad while also continuing to work on my rehabilitation program over the race weekend. I will be back on track as soon as I am ready.”

There will be an announcement about the team’s plans for the weekend to follow.
