Cluzel clinches third to remain in WorldSSP title scrap!

Tuesday, 11 June 2019 12:31 GMT

The Frenchman came from a lowly Tissot Superpole and put on a strong show to get back on the podium for the first time since Thailand!

It was a well-deserved podium that Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha) clinched at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, which strengthened his third position in the overall standings behind the leader, Randy Krummenacher (BARDAHL Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team) and his teammate Federico Caricasulo.

But the start of the weekend did not predict such a good result for the Yamaha rider. Fourth in the standings and nearly one second from the top, Cluzel was only eighth on the grid. "I'm happy to be back on the podium," said the Frenchman. “The beginning of the weekend was mixed, especially on Saturday. We tried different things on the bike, because we had seen on Friday that Krummenacher and Caricasulo were very strong. Unfortunately, it did not work at all, it was even worse! So, we changed everything again on Sunday and this time it worked out well. It was great to come back and fight at the front, but we have to keep working."

Once the lights were off, Cluzel managed to overcome several riders, including his compatriot Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing), and eventually climb into the leading group to face the team duo BARDAHL Evan Bros. Cluzel, who was second at Jerez in 2017, had not come back on the podium since winning the Pirelli Thai Round.

"I really enjoyed myself during this race," concludes Cluzel. I was able to fight for victory until the start of the last lap. We are getting closer to the two riders leading the championship. This morning, we have taken a real step forward, I can’t wait to be in Misano! "

For the next meeting of the calendar, the FIM Supersport World Championship will settle on the circuit of Misano, a track where Cluzel was fourth at last year, and won at twice: in 2014 and 2015.
