Big steps forward for Sykes, Rea and van der Mark.

The final practice session ahead of this afternoon’s Tissot-Superpole was topped by Tom Sykes, the Kawasaki Racing Team rider improving by over half a second on his very first lap of the 30 minute session.

Behind Sykes (2.04.557s) was his team mate Jonathan Rea who also improved significantly to end FP4 0.049s adrift.

Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Superbike Team) was also another to improve massively, the Dutchman elevating himself to 3rd with a series of successive fast laps.

Jordi Torres was once again the best of the Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils riders in 4th ahead of Max Biaggi in 5th.

6th was Alex Lowes who proved that had it not been for a crash in FP3 he could well have avoided having to run in Superpole 1, the British rider has some serious pace around the 5.543km circuit as does his Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team mate Randy de Puniet who was strong once again.

Chaz Davies and Leon Haslam both crashed unhurt during the session, finishing 7th and 8th overall with Niccolo Canepa (Althea Racing) and David Salom (Team Pedercini) rounding out the top ten.

Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia) clipped Matteo Baiocco (Althea Racing) at the start of his first flying lap causing the Italian rider to high-side spectacularly. The red flags were brought out momentarily as Badovini went to the medical centre for a precautionary check. The Italian rider has been declared unfit to ride for the rest of the weekend.

Tissot-Superpole will start at 1500 local time with the top 2 riders from Superpole 1 joining the already seeded top ten after FP3.
