Nocco leads the way in Q1
The first qualifying session of the Superstock 600 European Championship was held today under sunny skies and dry conditions, and saw Alessandro Nocco (San Carlo Team Italia) leading the way courtesy of a 2'02.213 lap-time. The Southern Italian youngster was able to finish ahead of Silverstone race winner Christian Gamarino (Team GoEleven Kawasaki), who had a crash at Turn 14 during his last quick-lap in an attempt to edge the rival from first place.
Franco Morbidelli, leader in first free practice for just 0.006 over team mate Nocco, and Gauthier Duwelz (MTM-MVR Racing Yamaha), who like Gamarino are part of the 4-way battle up top for the title, ended up in third and fourth place, while current Championship leader Bastien Chesaux (EAB Ten Kate Junior Team Honda) was only 7th behind fellow Swiss Dominic Schmitter (HAGN-Skm by Knoby.at Yamaha) and Robin Mulhauser (MTM-MVR Racing Yamaha). Chesaux was also involved in a 3-way crash in the second part of the session, along with Kyle Smith (Agro-On Racedays Honda) and Alex Radmann (Schact Racing SBK ONE Triumph).
