2013 Australian Champion Broc Parkes with an eye to the future
Despite being away from the WSBK paddock for the first time in twelve years, Aussie Broc Parkes had a busy schedule in 2013, that ranged from racing FX Superbike Championship in his home country to World Endurance. Parkes' mission on native soil was a successful one, while his hopes on bringing the Monster Energy Yamaha Austria Racing to victory in WEC were crushed by a technical problem occurred to the team's bike during the last event of the season, the 24h of Le Mans.
The multiple World Supersport race winner is now looking forward to the new challenge, a One Event ride in the season finale of the eni FIM Superbike World Superbike Championship, scheduled for October 20 at Jerez: "I had a great year riding the superbike in Australia and in World Endurance. I was really pleased to win the FX Superbike championship last weekend and I'm really looking forward to coming back to World Superbike at Jerez. Expectations are not high as our bike is not at WSBK spec, we are just testing YEC kit parts but it should fun and I'll be really pleased if I get into the top-10."
Parkes makes no mystery of the fact that he is trying to make a comeback to the series, especially with the new opportunities that EVO rules will bring to teams and riders: "Definitely the plan for next year is to be in WSB or EVO as this year I've been racing Superbikes which are more like EVO spec and I think this will be the future of Superbike. I'd really like to thank the Monster Energy Yamaha Austria Team (YART) and Yamaha for giving me this opportunity at Jerez, I can't wait!".
