Leon Haslam fastest in the WSBK tests opening session
Leon Haslam used his previous testing experience at Phillip Island to its maximum to take an early ‘lead' in the first day standings. With one more session to come this afternoon, Haslam posted a 1'32.484 lap on his Suzuki Alstare machine, keeping himself just ahead of Ducati Xerox rider Noriyuki Haga. Haga's team-mate Michel Fabrizio was third. A good start for Ducati riders saw five of the top six places filled by vee-twin machinery, with Carlos Checa (Althea) fourth fastest, Lorenzo Lanzi (DFX) and Shane Byrne (Althea) all riding 1098R machines.
Sylvain Guintoli was seventh for Suzuki; top Aprilia rider was Max Biaggi, eighth. Best Honda rider was Max Neukirchner ninth, top Yamaha runner so far was Cal Crutchlow, tenth.
One more session, from 15.25 to 17.55 local time, will complete the first day of SBK testing in Australia, with two more sessions scheduled for Monday 22 February.
