Update on injured riders after Nurburging

After the tenth Round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship at Nurburgring, here is an update on the conditions of the riders involved in crashes last Sunday.

Loris Baz is currently recovering at home in France. Baz injured his back in the warm-up accident and, although there was no spinal or neurological damage from the outset, fractured vertebrae were suspected. His medical situation is now more positive and Loris is already on his way to making what is expected to be a full recovery. Based on the situation so far, the team now hopes Loris to be able to get on track in Turkey on September 15th.

"I feel better now only a few days after the crash but I am still in some pain" said Loris Baz. "We should have more news about my recovery at the beginning of next week when I see more specialists, so we will see what they say. But in general it is better than they thought right after the accident, which is really good. Right now we are looking at a physiotherapy regime to be put in place. If everything works out as it should I will go to Turkey and try to race because my back feels much better than it did on Sunday."

Jonathan Rea (Pata Honda World Superbike) has landed to the Isle of Man after the successful surgery he underwent last Sunday night, for a fractured left femur. The break in his leg bone was a fairly clean one and the Ulsterman is already on crutches.

Jonathan Rea: "I'm feeling OK, considering, but I'm still quite sore in other areas apart from my leg. I flew home this morning [Wed 4 Sept] in a private plane, which was organised by my team manager Ronald ten Kate and Honda, so I'm really, really grateful for that. I've walked a few steps on the leg already and we're planning to start rehab as soon as possible. There's no chance of me missing the birth of our first child now, so Tatia and I are both really excited about that."

Leon Camier (FIXI Crescent Suzuki) is back to Andorra where he's trying to recuperate in order to attend the next round of the Championship at Istanbul. The English rider has some bruises on the back of the neck which hopefully won't prevent him to take part in the Turkish Round.

After the high-side of Race 2, One-Event participant Matej Smrz' conditions are considered encouraging, despite the heavy impact. The Czech rider will be on track for the next round of the German Superbike, where he races full-time. "I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to race in WSBK" said Matej Srmz. "I would never had this chance to win World Championship points. A big shame about the second race, during the last lap I made a mistake and crashed. I fell really hard because of the rear wheel sliding, so the racing weekend ended up in unlucky way, but it doesn't change the fact that I really enjoyed it!"
