Works Aprilia duo looking forward to the race weekend
The second Italian round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship 2013, which so far has seen Aprilia dominating in both the manufacturer and rider standings, has the historic Imola circuit as its venue. As confirmed by Championship leader Sylvain Guintoli and third place Eugene Laverty, the track on the banks of the Santerno is one of the most demanding on the calendar, with unique characteristics that make it difficult to perform on.
In any case, both of the Aprilia Racing Team riders are particularly motivated. Sylvain Guintoli, who put in two solid races at Portimão, had an excellent Superpole here last year which put him on the front row of the starting grid. His races were conditioned by a crash, but Aprilia's Frenchman, ranking leader in the championship standings, makes no secret of his feeling with the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Racetrack.
Eugene Laverty, who dominated the second race of the Portuguese round, is anxious to leave behind the stumbling blocks that conditioned the early part of his season. A double podium is the least the Northern Irishman will settle for and he is expecting a warm welcome from the many Italian fans who will turn out for the weekend.
Sylvain Guintoli: "I always have a special feeling to go and race in Imola. The track is very challenging and the history of this place makes it so unique. Last year, I had a 1st row Superpole qualifying but a crash in race1 left me with a broken rib. After this, race2 was one of the most painful experiences of my life! Fighting spirit level is high... Roll on Imola 2013."
Eugene Laverty: "This season has been a series of highs and lows with many race wins but also non-finishes. In Imola I would like to secure two podium finishes, as in Phillip Island and Monza. This is my main goal for the weekend. As an Aprilia rider I receive great support from the Italian fans and so I always look forward to the Italian rounds."
