Monza – the pre-round statistics

WorldSBK.com provides you with some interesting facts and information about this weekend's round at Monza.

Last year Sylvain Guintoli posted here his maiden pole (to date, his only one), but he wasn't able to take advantage of it, as his bike let him down during the formation lap. The best result for Sylvain here is a 7th, scored in the second races in 2010 and 2011.

One of the best tracks for Eugene Laverty, who scored here his maiden win (who became a double with race two) two years ago: it was also his maiden podium finish. Last year he ended up 3rd after fighting with Leon Haslam, while in 2010 he won the Supersport race.

Chaz Davies was 12th in last year's race. The year before, in the Supersport Championship, he scored pole position, win, fastest lap and led from lights to flag.

Tom Sykes always scored points in his seven Monza races, winning last year, after having qualified second. Tom is the only Kawasaki rider able to finish a race in Monza in the top-5 in the last eleven years: he managed to do it also in 2010, race two (5th).

Good performances for Jonathan Rea in Monza even though he's still missing of a podium finish: he always qualified between 3rd and 6th, finishing 4th and 5th his first two races here, the 2009 ones, and was then 6th in race 1 in 2011 and last year.

Three podiums out of thirteen races in Monza for Michel Fabrizio: he scored here his maiden win in 2009, race 1, taking advantage of Ben Spies' retirement. He was the last rider to win on a Ducati here (2009) and the last one to post a podium place with a Suzuki (2011).

Three races in Monza for Marco Melandri: he obtained a 2nd (in race 2, 2011) and two 4th place finishes (2011 race 1 and last year). In qualifying he was 5th in 2011 and 3rd last year.

Jules Cluzel last year won the Supersport race on the wet: this was his maiden win out of four he obtained in that championship.

Carlos Checa didn't climb on the podium in two of the tracks included in the 2013 calendar: the first is Moscow, in which he raced only last year, the other one is Monza, where Carlos ran nine races, obtaining as best result a 7th place in last year's race.

Max Neukirchner probably lived in Monza his best and worst race: in 2008, race 1, he became the first (and, to date, only) German to win a Superbike race, while the following year he was ran over by Brendan Roberts, breaking his right femur, ending prematurely his season.

The best result for Ayrton Badovini in Monza is a 6th in race 2 in 2011: last year he was 10th. In the Superstock 1000 championship he dominated the 2010 race with pole, win, fastest lap and leading from lights to flag.

Ten years ago Vittorio Iannuzzo debuted in Superbike on the Monza track: he was eighth in qualifying and finished the races in twelfth and ninth. The first world-class race for Vittorio in Monza came in 1999, at seventeen, in Supersport: he was 13th at the flag.

Mark Aitchison two years ago was able to score two points in race two in Monza, finishing 14th, last year his bike let him down on the formation lap. His best result here dates back 2007, when he was second behind Matteo Baiocco in the Superstock 1000 race, losing out by only 0"004 on the finish line and recording the fastest race lap.
