Top three challengers fill in the top three places
Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing Team) led combined qualifying in the eni FIM Superbike World Championship class after the second session, posting a best lap of 1 minute 42.800 seconds to head off the close attentions of Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) by 0.140 seconds.


The top three championship challengers all clumped together in one group at the top of the timesheets, with Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) third by only 0.197 seconds.


A little way back Melandri's team-mate Leon Haslam was fourth quickest, with Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing) fifth. Rookie rider but already a race winner Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team) was sixth after regulation qualifying.


Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team), Leon Camier (FIXI Crescent Suzuki) and Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) added a cosmopolitan mix of machines to the top places.
