Brett McCormick's return to World Superbike could be just a couple of weeks away as the young Canadian has made good progress in recovering from the injuries he received at Assen. In race 2 of the Dutch Round McCormick picked up a C5 vertebra fracture and a broken bone in the thumb of his right hand. He began physiotherapy a couple of weeks ago and next week will be going to Brno for a check-up on his condition with the Clinica Mobile and the FIM Medical Director in order to get the green light for his return to racing at Silverstone in three weeks time.
"I got clearance from my doctor about 2 weeks ago to start doing physio, and get back into shape," declared "The Kid" on his Facebook page. "I've been working hard everyday and the neck is feeling awesome. I'm suffering from a bit of whiplash, but the bone is healed up 99% and I don't get any pain from it anymore. I've been on my road bicycle pretty much everyday for the past 2 months so my lungs are ready to get back at it, just need the rest of my body to get back into shape."
The Effenbert Liberty Racing Ducati man's lengthy return to fitness culminated a couple of days ago when he went out on a motocross bike. "Yesterday was the first time I've been back on a bike since the accident, and I didn't suffer any soreness in my neck or thumb from riding. I went out to our local Motocross track to mess around a bit, and I have to say that was probably the best feeling ever after not turning a throttle for 3 months. I'm going to continue doing some MX until I head back to Europe. Everything has gone according to plan with the recovery and should be all good to make my return at Silverstone!"
