BMW, Kawasaki and Ducati top of the qualifying tree

Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) beat his own track best at the Motorland Aragon circuit in the second and final regulation qualifying session this morning, with a time of 1 minute 57.491 seconds. Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) came within 0.005 seconds of going into the 1'57s with his best lap and thus he will enter Tissot-Superpole in second place. Reigning champion and local favourite Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) was third quickest, with Melandri's team-mate Leon Haslam fourth.


Aprilia Racing duo Eugene Laverty and Max Biaggi were fifth and sixth respectively; Leon Camier (FIXI Crescent Suzuki) a much improved seventh. Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia Gold Bet) completed the virtual front two rows. Top Honda rider so far is Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) in 11th place. Tissot-Superpole this afternoon will determine the final places on the front four rows for Sunday's races.
