2011: A look back at Aragon

The World Championship after Misano moved to the new Aragon venue, in Carlos Checa's home country: the Spaniard however didn't perform as well as in the previous rounds and Marco Melandri took his maiden pole, behind him was Biaggi, third was Camier and fourth Checa.
The first four kept their positions through the first corner, but Checa during the opening lap was able to snatch third, while Biaggi took the lead from Melandri, stretching the pack. Checa looked like he was having trouble in keeping up with the leading duo and already during the second lap he nearly lost control of his bike, letting Haga through: Carlos was able to retake third on the following lap, then he increased his pace, posted the fastest race lap on the seventh time around, but in his attempt to catch Biaggi and Melandri, he fell on the following lap. Melandri's gap to Biaggi in the first laps went up and down, but in the second part of the race he was able to keep in touch with the Aprilia rider until Max went wide, five laps from the end, leaving Marco the chance he needed to go for the win.
The second race was almost a repeat of the first one, with the difference that Checa had a more relaxed approach: during the first laps he left the Kawasakis of Lascorz and Sykes fight for third behind Biaggi and Melandri, then, little by little, made his way through to third, without making the mistake of trying to catch the leading duo. The fight for the win, like in race one, was decided by a mistake: this time it was Melandri's turn, the Italian going wide at the first braking point on lap 15, losing a handful of seconds that left Biaggi alone in the lead to win his first race of the season.
