Tom Sykes hits the target ... with a crossbow!

The delightful scenery of the Republic of San Marino offered a spectacular opportunity for the presentation of the seventh round of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, which will be held at Misano Adriatico this weekend.

Curiosity surrounded the crossbow tournament organized in the Cava dei Balestrieri in San Marino's historic city centre for nine top Superbike riders. Under the guidance of crossbow experts from the world's oldest Republic they lined up for competition, demonstrating an unexpected ability in handling the ancient weapons.

The most skilled in the art of firing a crossbow proved to be Kawasaki Racing Team's Tom Sykes who just beat Max Biaggi (Aprilia Racing Team) and Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) by a few millimeters. Strangely enough the top three riders to reach the final were the top 3 in the championship standings, albeit not in that order.

After this unusual sporting contest the riders were then hosts for the inauguration of the Superbike Expo bike show in the main square and the traditional press conference with the area's political and sporting authorities for the 21st edition of the Misano Adriatico World Superbike round.
