Smrz once again blasts to the top
Jakub Smrz's affinity for the Miller Motorsports Park race circuit on his Liberty Racing Team Effenbert Ducati continued into the final qualifying session as the Czech rider posted a 1 minute 48.517 second lap to enter Tissot-Superpole as the fastest rider. Second up was Carlos Checa (Althea Racing), the only rider to get close to the privateer machine of Smrz and the only other man under the 1m49s mark.
Third fastest proved to be BMW Motorrad Motorsport rider Marco Melandri and the third Ducati in the top four places belonged to Sylvain Guintoli (Team Effenbert Liberty Racing).
Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing) and Jonathan Rea (Honda World Superbike Team) posted fifth and sixth places respectively but the big move upwards came from American rider John Hopkins (Fixi Crescent Suzuki) who was seventh after combined qualifying.
Tom Sykes was top Kawasaki Racing Team rider in tenth place.
