Superbike riders ride the waves

Ahead of the eni FIM Superbike World Championship roaring into Donington Park this weekend for the European round, four of the stars were riding the waves rather than their bikes today as they took on white water rafting.

British riders Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport), Chaz Davies (ParkinGO MTC Racing Aprilia) and Eugene Laverty (Aprilia Racing Team) from the Superbike World Championship and Sam Lowes (Bogdanka PTR Honda), who is currently second in the Supersport World Championship took part in the event at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

Leon Haslam, from Smalley in Derbyshire, will be racing at his home circuit this weekend. He said: "Riding the Donington track is an exhilarating experience but riding the waves in a raft is something else. It was a great way to let off some steam ahead of the races this weekend. I've had a good start to the 2012 season and I'm hoping to continue that at Donington this weekend."

This year the eni FIM Superbike World Championship is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is coming back to where it all began when Donington Park hosted the first race back in 1988. Fans can look forward to what promises to be an exciting weekend of racing thanks to the Park's famous 12-turn track and a championship that's sitting wide open.
