Ducati 1199 Panigale STK1000 contender unveiled
At the EICMA show in Milan today Ducati showed its new 1199 Panigale Superbike to the world for the first time, having already stated that it will compete in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup with this machine in 2012.

The new bike is still a 90-degree V-Twin with desmo valve system, of almost 1200cc, but virtually every component and of the machine is a departure from conventional Ducati engineering conventions. The engine orientation is now changed, with the cylinders slightly canted backwards from the previous layout.

The ‘chassis' has a monocoque front section which doubles as the airbox, and the heavily oversquare ‘Superquadro' engine is a fully stressed member, with the rear shock arrangement now sitting to the left side of the machine, laid down almost horizontally and operated by levers and cranks. The exhaust snakes under the engine and behind the rear cylinder, has silencers on either side of the machine.
