Encouraging signs of recovery for Mircea Vrajitoru
Mircea Vrajitoru, the 19 year-old Romanian rider who was involved in a dramatic crash during the penultimate round of the European Superstock 600 Championship at Portimão in September, is showing encouraging progress every day, which bodes well for the treatment he will be required to follow in the wake of the serious head injury he picked up in Portugal.
In the days following the crash, Vrajitoru was put into an induced coma by doctors at Faro Hospital, but last Friday he was finally able to return home, to Timisoara Hospital where he will continue his recovery in the coming weeks and months.
In response to medical stimulus, Vrajitoru has opened his eyes and is reacting positively to what is probably the most difficult moment of his life. He is stable, disconnected from all appliances, has no more fever and is sleeping. He needs plenty of rest so that the injuries he suffered can recover.
He is followed constantly by his family members and his brother Bogdan, who like Mircea also races for the C.S.M. Bucharest Team, but in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup.
The doctors have said it will be a few weeks before an exact prognosis can be made regarding a full recovery from the head injury. Since 2009 the Romanian rider has been a constant presence in the European Superstock 600 Championship, and this year he scored a total of 8 points with a 12th place at the Nurburgring his best result.
An official Facebook page has been created for the Romanian rider in the last few weeks, and it can be viewed by clicking on this link: https://www.facebook.com/PaginaDeSustinereMirceaVrajitoru
