Sam Lowes on pole over Sofuoglu and Leonov

Championship leader Sam Lowes (Yakhnich Motosport Yamaha) has scored the 6th pole position of the season, the 11th in his World Supersport career, today at Imola. The rider from Lincoln was able to better his already competitive time to put half a second between himself and the other two front row starters for the race scheduled for tomorrow, Kenan Sofuoglu (Mahi Racing Team India Kawasaki) and team mate Vladimir Leonov.

Riccardo Russo (Puccetti Racing Kawasaki) missed the top-3 for a matter of 0.050 seconds, while Lorenzo Zanetti (Pata Honda World Supersport) and Luca Scassa (Intermoto Ponyexpres Kawasaki) finished fifth and sixth respectively ahead of Kev Coghlan (DMC-Lorenzini Kawasaki).

Andrea Antonelli (Team Goeleven Kawasaki), eight at the chequered flag, had an unfortunate collision at Turn 18 with Jack Kennedy (Rivamoto Honda), as the Irishman hit the back of the Italian's ZX-6R after losing control of his bike. Sheridan Morais (PTR Honda) and Michael van der Mark (Pata Honda World Supersport) complete the top-10, while the South African's team mate Luca Marconi fractured his right wrist following a crash and has been declared unfit to race.
