At this crucial stage of the season, Frenchman Jules Cluzel (PTR Honda) returned to the winners' podium last Sunday at Silverstone by notching up his second victory at the British circuit following the one he had already obtained there in Moto2. The PTR team youngster had a perfect weekend: pole position (his third in World Supersport) on Saturday and then a race win at the end of a spectacular duel with his fellow PTR man Sam Lowes on the Bogdanka Honda machine.
Starting from pole, the 23 year-old from Montlucon administered the situation behind Lowes until lap 15 and then made the decisive attack on the Brit on the final lap to take his second win of the season (and the 90th for Honda) after the one he scored at Monza.
"That was a hard race but I had my race plan I wanted to do and I stuck to it," he declared. "I drafted Sam on the last lap but then he came back at me on the final corner and we touched, it was very close. I am pleased to win and also very happy to enjoy racing here and the feeling I have with my PTR Honda. It is good for us in the Championship as well, I am happy to be third again and close in on the riders in front."
With the 25 points from Silverstone, Cluzel is now just 28 behind leader Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Lorenzini), and is rapidly closing in on the top slot as World Supersport heads to Moscow for the next round.
