After the opening encounter in Portugal at the Acerbis Portuguese Round, there was plenty of statistical analysis to be had. Who achieved what in Race 1? How many starts is Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) set to make on Sunday, where does the Northern Irishman stand in the all-time pole positions ranking and who equalled Rob Phillis with the 27^th WorldSBK podium of his career?

1. It was the 23rd podium of the season for Jonathan Rea, one shy of his personal best set in 2017 and two shy of the record of 25, recorded by Colin Edwards in 2002. The introduction of the Superpole Races made this record likely to fall with races to spare this year.
2. A 21st Tissot Superpole pole position is an important milestone in Jonathan Rea’s career, as it allowed him to match Carl Fogarty in the 4th all-time spot.
3. With Rea’s podium in Race 1, Great Britain now counts 694 total podium finishes in WorldSBK history and on Sunday there is the first mathematical chance to reach 700. The next closest country is Italy, at 376 podiums.
4. Rea on Sunday is set for his 270th race start, his 130th for Kawasaki (previously, he had raced 140 times for Honda).
5. 27th career podium in Race 1 for Michael Van der Mark: he matched Rob Phillis in the 29th all-time spot.
6. This was his fourth straight podium at Portimao, the same he scored in Jerez. Only at his home track, Assen, he has fared better at, with 7 WorldSBK podiums.
7. Tom Sykes came close to recording his fourth Superpole in Algarve but had to settle for second for the second time at this track after 2015.
8. It was third career front row in Tissot Superpole for Sandro Cortese after his second places at MotorLand Aragon and Misano.
9. 86th career podium for Chaz Davies in Race 1: now he is only one shy of the 7th all-time spot held by New Zealander, Aaron Slight.
10.  Alex Lowes’ fifth grid spot in Superpole was his best Superpole effort since his fourth place at Misano.
