Moment of the weekend: Davies returns to winning ways in the USA!

Monday, 15 July 2019 10:26 GMT

It has been 43 races since his last WorldSBK win, but Chaz Davies made sure to end the drought in California in the heat of Summer!

With no win since Race 2 at MotorLand Aragon in 2018, Chaz Davies (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) needed to go into the Summer break with confidence. On Friday, the question was asked about whether or not Davies’ comeback started in the United States, having ended the opening day on top. On Saturday, he was a hearty second but at last, after nearly 16 months away from the top step of the podium, Davies took victory once again in Race 2.

The race initiated with an all-action start, with the Welshman muscling his way ahead into Turn 2, leading the field round for the first time. A lap later and he was challenged by Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), who slotted his way down the inside of the 32-year-old Brit at Turn 5. But it didn’t work, and the championship leader slid wide on exit, allowing Davies and his Ducati Panigale V4 R to power back through.

From that moment on, it was one of the classiest displays of Davies’ career, with his consistency and relentless pace enough to break the desire of Rea in second. An inspired ride to an emphatic victory, Chaz Davies is firmly in the hunt for more top results in 2019. With wins at all remaining circuits – besides Portimao and the Circuito San Juan Villicum – Davies is starting to come good after a challenging start to 2019.
