Van der Mark: "The goal has to be to return to the top at least once"

Dutchman hoping to end last two rounds on a high note in battle for second position

Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) enters the final stages of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season with second place in the standings in his sights. The flying Dutchman arrives at the Circuit San Juan Villicum 26 points behind Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati): with four races still to go, van der Mark must fancy his chances.

It has already been the Yamaha rider’s most successful season in the premier class: 42 points more than his previous best tally (with four races and 100 points still in play); 10 podium finishes, compared to a previous personal best of six; and perhaps most importantly, his first ever race wins in WorldSBK. Van der Mark has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and a win in WorldSBK’s first South American race would send a message to his rivals months before the 2019 title hunt begins.

The 26-year-old is ready to step out onto the Argentinian track: “From what I've seen the layout looks pretty good and I can't wait to get started there on the R1. It's going to be a interesting Friday because nobody has any experience of this track and no data either. I'm confident that, with the help of the team, I can get up to speed quickly. The double at Donington was so long ago now, so the goal in these last two rounds has to be to return to the top step of the podium at least once."
