Portimao the stage for Yamaha’s YZF-R1M launch

Following on from a successful two day test around the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) and Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) stayed on at the Portuguese circuit, to test and launch the new YZF-R1M in front of the worlds media.

Both riders are set to continue with the team for the upcoming season, as the both secured podium finishes in 2017 with the team and will be hoping to go one better in 2018 and take a victory. Helping Yamaha to develop the sought after YZF-R1 machines, they were present as the manufacturer launched the YZF-R1M, which is a bike that is as close an experience as the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team-mates have on their bikes.

Not only were Lowes and van der Mark present, but reigning FIM Supersport World Champion Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) and FIM Supersport 300 World Championship runner-up Alfonso Coppola (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Junior Team) were also on track, as they build up for their respective season openers which are just around the corner – in Australia and Spain respectively.
