Columbian ends day one at Jerez with positive feeling

Ahead of making his MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship debut in just over a month’s time at the Australian circuit of Phillip Island, Yonny Hernandez (Pedercini Racing) has a strong feeling and is looking forward to continuing to develop the ZX-10RR.

The Columbian rider took part in his second test for the Italian team, and put in over 51 laps on day one of the 2018 test. Ending the day in 15th, he was 2.17s behind fastest man and reigning world champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), and he looks forward to another day on the Ninja machine.

Noting the biggest difference between the WorldSBK bike and MotoGP™ prototype machines is the electronics, Hernandez comments: “The day was really good and a positive one, we worked a lot on the electronics on the bike, and I think for tomorrow we will improve the lap times. I need to learn more about the bike and the team, and we then need to work together to improve the bike. But for this we have time, we have more tests and a second day tomorrow and I think today was positive.”

Regarding the upcoming days of testing, he adds: “The programme for tomorrow is to continue working on the electronics, and improving them on the bike to make better lap times. I think the difference is that the bike moves around much more, the anti-wheelie is the main factor as well as the electronics. At first we will hope for a top ten and then we will aim for a podium if it’s possible, we have a good opportunity here in World Superbike, I am so happy to stay here and I look forward to the season ahead.”
