As the sun sets on the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship in 2017, emotions are still running high over the stunning season of action we have been treated to. Patiently waiting for winter testing to begin, we take a look back over some of our top five best races witnessed throughout 2017. Tough to narrow it down to just five races out of the stunning 26; relive some of the on track battles as we take a look back at our highlights, and see if you agree.

Turn back the clocks to the first round of the season at the legendary Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, where edge of your seat racing is guaranteed. Eager to get action underway for the first time in 2017 both races were pure joy to watch, but race one was a phenomenal way to kick off the season. With the battle heading to the final lap, the fight was on between Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) for the victory, with Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) set to decide the final podium spot at the line, but who would take the first honours of 2017?

Heading back to Europe for the third round of the season, WorldSBK entered Ducati territory as Davies has taken the victory five times around MotorLand Aragon. Race One welcomed the stunning action as Davies took the early lead, but was unable to shake off Rea around the Spanish circuit. As the fight continued to the final lap, tensions began to rise and it was all to play for with Davies hunting down his first victory of the season onboard his Panigale, with Rea right on his tail.

In a historic season for the World Superbike Championship, Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was able to produce a memorable race two on Sunday. As Spanish rider Jordi Torres (Althea BMW Racing Team) took an early dominant lead, the on track action was breathtaking. But the question on everyone’s lips was whether the returning Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) could secure Italy’s 100th WorldSBK victory.

Hitting the half way point of the season, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca played host to the Geico US Round, and emotions were running high at Nicky Hayden’s home circuit following the riders tragic death. Under the sunny American skies, it was the trio of Rea, Sykes and Davies who took the early lead and battled around the legendary circuit. With some stunning moves and some risky overtakes around the fast and flowing circuit, Davies was able to tug at the heartstrings of many following his stunning victory as he proudly flew a 69 flag in memory of Hayden on his victory lap.

Chaz Davies and Lausitzring seem to fit together like two peas in a pod, and the 2017 Prosecco Doc German Round was no exception. Winning race one from sixth on the grid, the British rider started race two from ninth on the grid under the new rule for 2017, and his fight through the field was nothing short of impressive. Could he hold off Rea, who was getting closer to that historic third title in a row? Re-watch the amazing fight back now.
