WorldSSP300 runner up makes the step up in 2018

Joining the GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Jnr Team, young Italian Alfonso Coppola will compete in the FIM Supersport World Championship in 2018, taking part in the European Supersport Cup element of the class.

Hailed as a fantastic opportunity for young riders, the 20 year old will be out on track in all European races of the WorldSSP championship in 2018 as he finished runner up in the WorldSSP300 series in 2017.

On top of this, Coppola was crowned the first bLU cRU Challenge winner last season and will continue with Yamaha into the new season. With seven WorldSSP300 podiums and one race win under his belt, Coppola is no stranger to tough battles and will bring the fight to the WorldSSP field.

"I am very happy to be making the move up to WorldSSP,” begins the Italian. “And to do so as an official Yamaha rider is even more exciting! I have never worked with an official team before and I know that this represents a huge opportunity for me to take the next step in my career. I realise I have to make the most of a chance like this and I have been working hard during the winter in the gym and with the Yamaha R6 to prepare in the best possible way for the first round at Aragon. I want to thank Yamaha and the GRT team for the faith they have shown in me and this incredible opportunity they have given me. I cannot wait to start the season and I am determined to repay their belief in me!"

Coppola will now focus on the training and testing ahead of the first round of the European Supersport Cup, at MotorLand Aragon from 13th – 15th April.
