Weather doesn’t hold KRT rider back in Australia

Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) heads into the second day of the Official Phillip Island test feeling comfortable and relaxed aboard his ZX-10RR, as he knows which elements he will need to change ahead of day two.

Accepting the infamous unpredictable Phillip Island weather which meant the MOTUL FIM Superbike World championship riders had a limited time out on track this morning, the Yorkshireman wasn’t disheartened by his lack of track time as he secured the sixth fastest time.

Understanding which elements he will need to improve on is key, and himself and his Kawasaki team will use tomorrow in order to smooth out any issues they have come across, meaning they will complete their 2017 winter testing regime.

Sykes explained: “The weather is the weather, it’s been very unpredictable today but I’m very relaxed and enjoying things. I wouldn’t say my time was solid, we’re definitely missing some things but overall we know what we’re missing and we’re going to make some changes. We’re really relaxed; we’re off to a steady start but obviously tomorrow I think the forecast is better, so we’re looking forward to that. We’ve had some good winter testing, really got rid of the things that didn’t work and they were quite small so this makes me more relaxed. We’re hopefully just teeing ourselves up for the weekend, so nothing special here today but we’re winding ourselves up as the week progresses.”
