German rider returns home STK1000 crash

German rider Marvin Fritz (Bayer-Bikerbox Yamaichi), who was injured on Sunday during the opening laps of the European Superstock 1000 race at TT Circuit Assen, will be discharged from hospital today following the improvement of his clinical conditions. From there, he will travel back to Germany.

Following an incident during Sunday’s STK1000 race in the Netherlands, initial reports indicated his was in a stable condition at a local hospital in The Netherlands. From there he was admitted to the medical surgical ward, leaving the intensive care unit and was reported as stable and conscious. A deeper medical evaluation reported the presence of a lung contusion.

The 24-year-old remained under observation for a few days at the Universitair Medisch Centrum in Groningen, and once his condition improved he was allowed to return home.

The session was red flagged on the opening lap after the German rider was involved in a crash with four riders at turn 16.

Two medical cars and then two ambulances were immediately on the scene to treat the 24 year-old, where every possible procedure was undergone in order to stabilize and assist Fritz by TT Assen Circuit. Due to the severity of his condition, the decision was taken to transfer Fritz by road to the nearby Hospital, Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen. After further examination, Fritz was in a stable condition and has regained consciousness on Sunday evening.
