Turkish rider prepares for tough weekend under the floodlights

Making an impressive return from injury at the Acerbis Qatar Round as he continues to defend his world title, Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) completed the opening day in the top seven as he understands his levels of fitness under the floodlights.

Missing out on both the French and Jerez WorldSBK Rounds, the Turkish rider has made an incredible comeback in the FIM Supersport World Championship this weekend, as he sits 20 points behind Lucas Mahias (GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team) in the championship standings.

Starting off with a steady pace under the floodlights in Qatar, the five time WorldSSP champion began to evaluate his fitness and explains the levels of confidence he has will be important ahead of the rest of the weekend. With a lap time of 2.01.316s, he sits just 0.412s behind fastest man Mahias ahead of Superpole on Saturday.

Sofuolgu explains: "Today was not really easy for me. We had to talk a lot with the doctors in order to convince them to let me run, but finally we got their consent. This weekend I will have to be careful because another fall could be dangerous to me. Being on the bike is difficult and I still have to regain confidence after the bad accident in France, but we are here to fight and now I simply need to rest to have all the energy I need to run tomorrow.
