Championship leader happy with second position in MotorLand

Coming off the back of a solid victory in Saturday’s race one, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) was unable to stop Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in race two and crossed the line in second position, despite putting up a strong fight right down to the final lap.

The Pirelli Aragon Round provided two thrilling races in windy conditions and the British rider is able to leave with a solid 50 point lead over his rivals. At a track Rea knows his ZX-10RR is not the strongest around, he was able to secure a win after a dramatic race on Saturday before fighting through the field from the third row in race two.

Rea was happy with how the final day went, despite putting a stop to his 100% win record in 2017: “I’m really pleased and it’s been a really good weekend for us. Coming to a track that’s not very strong for me on the bike, we had a strong weekend. We put a good friday in and felt confident and then yesterday we were able to race for a full 18 full laps with Chaz, as well as today, one of his strongest tracks was no mean feat.”

Continuing to discuss the form of his Kawasaki Ninja, Rea said: “It was clear all weekend where the strengths of my bike are and we’ve got some good foundations to go back to the drawing board and request some good updates. I can’t be too hard on my bike, it was good overall and we were getting some good advantages in some areas but there were some where we were losing out on too much. This was especially in acceleration so there’s a lot of food for thought.”

Rea will take part in the official one day test at MotorLand Aragon on Monday 2nd April, before heading to the Netherlands for the fourth round of the season in three weeks time.
