Kawasaki Racing Team look to make improvements in Aragon

Strong start to the season doesn’t hold duo up

Coming off the back of a near faultless start to the season, the Barcelona-based Kawasaki Racing Team are still looking at where they can improve as the series gets into full swing for the Pirelli Aragon Round.

MotorLand Aragon is the host for the third round of the 2017 season, and is a track which holds mixed results for the duo. Tom Sykes holds the pole position record in Spain, which was set last season, and with a strong Superpole history around the modern circuit he will be one to watch on Saturday morning. The last time Sykes took the victory around MotorLand was back in 2014, which with his modified riding style this season he will be hoping to replicate this weekend.

“I am looking forward to coming back to the European tracks now after a steady start to the season.” Sykes explains. “It has not been too shabby but there are little areas we will certainly look to improve on at this forthcoming race weekend. I feel we have learned in the first two rounds and now our aim is to move forward and be stronger in terms of initial lap times. I am re-thinking my approach to riding, and my fastest lap of the race in Thailand was on the last lap. Off the top of my head I would say we are looking at adjusting my riding style 60-70 percent and adjusting the bike settings 40-30 percent. It is just taking some time.”

Jonathan Rea has only taken home one first position trophy since the series first visited the track in 2011, back in Race One in 2015. However following the recent pace of his ZX-10RR it would be hard to rule out the Northern Irishman of contention this weekend. Following some strong winter tests in Alcaniz, Rea feels confident ahead of the weekend.

Rea explains:  “After the two flyway rounds it was nice to get home and back into some domestic normality, especially with the kids. I have really enjoyed the MotorLand track since its inception in 2011, but I have never been the strongest, so I am looking forward to taking the form we have had in the last two races with us. Our first winter test was held here in November and we seemed to have a really good steer on things then. I enjoy riding the Ninja ZX-10RR and it seems like it has been in the ballpark at two quite different circuits this year. I am excited and intrigued to get underway at MotorLand to see where we stack up.”
